What trucks did the 2nd Battalion KRRC use?
Len Moore fought with the 2nd Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps 2/KRRC across the deserts of North Africa during WW1 from 1941 to 1943. They were equipped with three different soft skinned vehicles for transporting troops, equipment, food rations and ammunition.

The Humber 8 cwt Truck
The Humber FWD Heavy Utility Car was a continuation of the Super Snipe large car, using the same engine, but introducing 4x4 drive. In addition to being used as a GS (general service) truck, it was also used as an FFW (fitted for wireless) truck. It had a high ground clearance and could be adapted for many different roles.

The Bedford 15 cwt Truck
In 1935, Bedford began the development of a 15 cwt truck for the British War Office. This entered service as the MW in 1939, and 65,995 examples had been built by the end of World War II in 1945. The MW appeared in a bewildering range of roles, as a water tanker, general duties truck, personnel carrier, petrol tanker, wireless truck and anti-aircraft gun tractor.

When the Half-Track reached KRRC Motor Battalions in 1943, its armour was welcomed. Seats were taken out so that a Section of 9 men including a driver, could load all the items needed to enable it to move and fight for 24 hours. A canopy on bars, often rolled up, was used A four wheeled version, the White Scout Car, was also used.
The American M3 armoured personnel carrier weighed 10 tons. It was armed with one 5. inch Browning M2 machine gun. It had front hull armour of 13 mm but on the sides and rear only 6 mm. It was powered by a White 160 AX engine that delivered 147 hp. Its top speed was 47 mph on roads and 35 mph cross country. It had a range of 220 miles on roads.
